The UPN Disciplinary Committee proposes to suspend Sayas and Adanero from militancy for 2 and a half years.

The UPN Disciplinary Committee has proposed suspending deputies Sergio Sayas and Carlos García Adanero from militancy for two and a half years for skipping the party's mandate in the vote on the labor reform.Party sources have confirmed to Efe that it is a communication of a statement of objections with a sanction proposal on which the deputies have five days to present allegations.

The UPN Executive Commission decided last Friday to formally ask its deputies to deliver their minutes and, if not, initiate the expulsion procedure, due to "serious indiscipline" when both voted against what was indicated by the party on the labor reform proposed by the Government. His decision was ratified the following day by the Political Council with 80.62% of the favorable votes.

From that moment the case passed to the Disciplinary Committee, which summoned the two deputies on Monday to hear their explanations, knowing their proposal two days later.

The UPN statutes consider that breaking the voting discipline is a serious offense that, however, does not entail expulsion from the party, but rather a temporary suspension of membership and disqualification from holding organic or elected positions.

Specifically, the statutes qualify as a serious infraction "any political action that goes against the decisions approved by the party's bodies, and expressly the breach of the official voting duty in the institutions, established by regulation."

Non-compliance entails a suspension of militancy for a period of time between one and three years and/or disqualification from holding office within the party or on its behalf for the same period of time.

In this sense, UPN officials and former officials consulted by Efe have considered that the formation's statutes are "very guaranteeing", so the Guarantees and Discipline Commission, an independent body, "has to spin very fine and argue very well" , even more so when it is not ruled out that García Adanero and Sayas could go to court if they are expelled.
